Hi Bill,

A better way to start EMC, at least until you get it running the way you
want it, is to open a terminal window. Type the following into the window
(without the quotes of course)

"cd /usr/local/emc"
"./emc.run" (note the dot slash)

now any errors that you have will be shown in the terminal window. Usually
just a tweek to the INI file will get you running. Once you get EMC running
and tuned properly you can use the icons to start it up, but since you won't
get any error messages if there is a startup problem, you may decide to just
continue using the terminal window to start EMC. One cool thing about Linux
is that it will save all keystrokes into a buffer even after a shutdown. So
after typing the above commands you can shut down your computer, restart it
the next day and when you open your terminal window start hitting the up
arrow key until you come to the command you want, then hit enter.
