Rather than turning DOWN the shafts, I bored UP the couplers. I
had a bunch of couplers that came off a set of axis drives, and was
swapping new encoders for the old resolvers and such. I mounted
the couplers in the lathe and bored out the ends, indicating the ID
first to make sure it was centered well. The couplers I had did
have plenty of meat left to hold the setscrews.
