Howdy;
There are several ways to go. Sherline has several small machines that you can
getm "CNC ready", and just hook up your servos/steppers/controller to. Grizzly
mini-mills now have a kit, as do others.
Now if you want to start from scratch, use-enco has several sorts of xy tables
that you can mount to a base, add a z axis column, spindle motor, servos, or
steppers etc., and go from there. Although the above are some of the more
economical routes to go, get used to the idea that you are going to be $pending
money.
Now for fun learner machines that are truly from scratch, and cheap, too,
several on this list have put together machines using ordnary hardware store
allthread, (threaded rod), steppers torn out of old printers, and who knows what
else, just to see what they'd do, and for the fun of it. I'll step out of the
way, and let them discribe them.
That should give you a few categories to think about.
