I'm not worried about spending money exactly, just worried about
wasting it. If the final machine costs me $5000 to build thats fine
as long as it does what I want :D

I was prepared to spend up to $2500 on my table saw but,
the "learner" tought me enough that I ended up spending $600 (All
Canadian funds). Now a $2500 saw would have done everything I wanted
as well, but the $1900 extra would have haunted me badly once I'd
learned enough ...
