A great question!!! I wish I had an outstanding answer. This is a
first project. More to get the feel of CNC systems than anything
else.
I lucked out and picked up an X-Y table out of the semi-conductor
industry for next to nothing. NSK slides and Warner Electric
ballscrews. All mounted on a 22x40" aluminium 3/4" plate. Extremely
well built and very precise.
This is a low cost trial project for a router/engraver. Will have
expended $350 to $450 too complete, except for electronic package.
Not bad for the tool I will end up with.
Second project is a Enco mill/drill conversion. I wanted experience
on a non primary tool before starting that project. The same servo
electronics can be traded between both tools.
