OK...
Unlike previous BDI releases and EMC in general, the BDI-Live ini files are
stored in ~/.emc - A quick check, and the default ini file that is used from
the icon/menu uses freqmod.
W95/98, XP, etc, cannot read the ini files on the CD as they are buried deep
within a compressed file - This is done to save space and to allow the Live
linux system to "mount" the file as if it were just another drive.
Being on a CD, it wouldn't be possible to modify the ini file in any case.
However, it is possible to save an ini file to floppy and copy it across each
time you boot up - You could even safe the home directory on the HDD as long
as it isn't an NTFS formatted partition.
