If you mean single point thread, yes you are right.

A 20 thou cut on a 1.5 inch piece feeding 8 inches per minute takes all
the power the spindle has. We might have been running the spindle a bit
too fast. That was also using a finishing carbide insert. Spindle
power or lack thereof becomes very apparent when one CNCs a lathe
because it is easy to adjust/increase the feedrates to the power limit.
Even using such cuts the machining time is nothing compared to doing it
manually and furthermore the operator can be working on other things
while it runs.

err... agreed with some hesitation. I'd put a 5/8" ball screw on it.
