I've got picture that probably explain it better than words do, but here
goes...

Basically, one ballnut is mounted solid to the slide, carriage, table,
etc. This is done by screwing the ballnut into a box shaped piece of
steel and then bolting the second ballnut mounted, in a piece of steel,
to it.

The first ball nut is called the load ballnut because it is attached to
the load. We bought the "round" ball nuts. Our equipment didn't have
enough room for square ballnuts. Remember that the acme nut is much,
much smaller than even a single ballnut, so everything you do will be
scrunched for space.

The size of steel we used to screw the load ballnut into varied with the
axis and piece of equipment we were installing it in, but was typically
CRS, 1" x 1.5" or 1.75" x 4" wide. We drilled and tapped it for the
ballnut. It attaches to the slide or table with one or two good bolts.
Nothing very complicated.

The second piece of steel bolts to the first with 2 studs. The studs
mount in a blind tapped hole either in the load ballnut or the backlash
ballnut, depending on what fits the axis better. We always orient the
studs so they are accessible with the machine assembled. Drill holes in
the mount without the studs to accept the studs.
