Hi Kim, as Doug mentioned, I do use his "Beast" 70V supplies in my
controllers and run Ametek 40 and 50V motors with them. I turn the
current limit to about 75% of max and use a 10A fuse to the motors.
The fuses rarely blow, and I cant remember ever blowing one. I get
great results from this combination and the motors run cool all the
time. Just don't turn the gain up too high or the motors will heat up
through excessive dithering. I set the software to demand about
1100-1200 rpm from the motors. That way I get good acceleration and
torque, but am not pushing them hard enough to harm them.
I have tried to use a 44V supply on 40V motors and the performance was
poor. I could not quite even reach 900rpm, and could easily stop the
motor with my fingers.
