Perl is an interpreter like bash, or tcl - 'gcc' is one of the tools used to
produce an executable binary.

The BDI disks are aimed more at the older hardware rather than the latest
"whiz bang" systems.

To be quite honest, unless you are playing games (get a PS2), or manipulating
images, a basic 4M graphics card is all that is required - Something that
will do 1024x768, and you don't even need 16bit colour, not for a CNC GUI
anyway !

With wry humour, I see that many CNC software packages a picky about the
hardware they will run on - So I don't think it would be fair to condemn one
particular package out of hand...
