I used a 9V battery and touched the fields to see
if I could get any movement from them afterwards.
It did make the motor wiggle a bit, but since it was still
mounted and belted, it didn't have the juice to move the table.
So I think the motors might still be okay...

No, no... it only blew *WITH* the motors plugged.
When the system was run _without_ the motors, everything was great.
