Which is better ?

SERIES.

it uses half the current.
motors stay cooler.
and you have the choice of re-wiring for more latter.

the other answer is "whatever you need to get done what you gotta do."


It sounds like the motors would be alive, as you didn't do anything
to them to destroy them.

the drives however are probably shot. The reason is that is you
connected one phase to the other, you did a no-no.
