Jon, so does this mean the encoder gets it's power through
the tach wires?

Spun the darn thing, and +/- generates a voltage that
appears to be proportional to rpm. Giving the spindle
a quick flip ramps up to about 1.8 volts, then ramps
back to zero as it stops.

So, it appears I do have both a tach and encoder....
