Hi Bill:
I use Mastercam.
I've also used Featurecam.
Many guys on the list are using Dolphin or Vector.
Both appear to be very well supported by their vendors (certainly better
than the high enders that I use).
If I was hobbying I'd pick Vector or Dolphin.
Vector seems to require a bit more retraining to pick up the new interface,
but seems a bit more powerful too.
Charles' suggestion requires you to hand code...OK for simple parts but
quite labour intensive for more complex parts.
His approach will likely give you the best education about how G code works,
and sometimes the most efficient and versatile code too.
I know a number of guys who hand code a lot more than I do for that reason.
They are production guys who can make up the time lost for programming by
having the most efficient program possible, that they will then run for
weeks.
I do mostly one offs, and a good bit of complex surfacing...Mastercam does
it for me.
Cheers

Marcus
