Couldn't you just set up a 'one-in-five' decoder, and connect all the
windings in an 'open-star' (five pointed, of course), then drive through a
step and direction set of signals??? Can you design a set of logic gates to
give you the necessary 5 states the motor should see, going in each
direction? Or is that too complex?
