Full coil gives twice the inductance and you use approximately half
the current in setting the motor current.

Recommendations are to use full current hooked up as half coil motors,
bipolar drive. The 2 amps is what they would handle in normal current
limited unipolar "wave" or "full step" drive, so that's fine.
