I tried using a usdigital linear encoder with one of my 600 oz in servo
motors on a mill/drill with zero backlash ballscrews but was using a 2/1
timing pulley drive. When I turned it on it vibrated severely. I tried
adjusting the dampening pot on the G320 but it didn't help.
It may work on your direct drive setup if everything is quite rigid with
zero backlash and a rigid coupling.

I wonder if one could use the (quadrature) feedback from a linear
encoder as the input to a Gecko 320 on a servo system to achieve a
better position accuracy.
