Unless you are going to put a lot of money into this and go with servos
and a lot of engineering, you will find that belts are MUCH faster than
screws. High speeds with long screws take a lot of effort and precision.
Search the archives for posts by Les Watts and follow his links to the
router he built. It will give you a good idea of the engineering
required. For your relatively low resolution application belts or rack
and pinion will be the way to go.
