You are a little confused about the purpose and focus of this list. This
is the list for the beginners and those without a lot of experience.
With the input of a former CCED member we had an off list discussion
among the moderators list that produced an interesting insight. While we
have in the past tried describing the focus and acceptable topics as
home hobbyist and not professional, what came out that is possibly a
better definition is beginner and advanced user. The focus of CCED is to
help the beginner and inexperienced user to become sufficiently
knowledgeable to be able to create, convert, or restore a machine to
computer controlled operation. We also are focused to assist the same
group of people on the software and related technology required to
accomplish this task. What we are not supporting are the advanced topics
that are relevant only to the person interested in areas such as
designing software, using the equipment in a production environment,
design issues around commercial hardware and other such items. This is
not to say that asking about how to design a stepper drive or a
controller package is off topic automatically. But, more that if you are
looking to join in on the development of EMC2 it would be far more
useful to carry on the discussion on the EMC developer list. Another
great example is the Gecko G200X hardware. The discussion on the concept
and the viability of the idea started on CCED as the large member base
provided a great sounding board as to whether the concept had any value.
But as soon as it progressed to a more advanced stage a specific list
was started to hand the very focused discussion required and the topic
was moved from CCED to the Gecko list. Similar progressions have
happened with many other topics dealing with items such as TurboCNC and
EMC. On many topics that are deemed off topic for CCED we suggest that
the discussion move to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jobshophomeshop as
it is a related list that allows unlimited discussion.
