It amazes me that so many designers of this stuff don't seem to know about the
concept of a crowbar circuit to protect load in such an eventuality. I've
seen too many huge piles of industrial machinery brought to a complete halt
by this omission...

I know this isn't strictly topical, but if any of you guys want to know how
to build a crowbar circuit, I'll be happy to explain it if you contact me
off-list.
