I'm not sure what to tell you. I have a 3-axis servo system. It has
been extremely
reliable since about June 1999, and the same with the 20Dec1999
release. I tried
the 15Mar2000 release, because the earlier releases did not do backlash
compensation
correctly. 15Mar2000 DOES fix the backlash compensation, but has a
number of
problems that I really found worrisome, so I went back to Dec. The
biggest was that
it hung up either the user interface or the X-windows system twice in
one evening.
That is totally unacceptable when we're controlling dangerous machinery
(although
the motion control real-time component was still in full control all the
time).

Hopefully, these problems will be resolved in a while, and the next
releases
will be both reliable and support the new features.

I am using Red Hat Linux 5.2 (2.0.36 kernel) with XFree86.
