I have the original reversing switch, too (although not the dual-speed
version) and use it the same way. But, it could be dangerous for someone
who didn't know better to flip the switch when the motor was running.

Yes, I like this feature, too. Especially on my 15" lathe, where there is
some REAL mass in the chuck.
