Hi!
I'm in about the same place you are...
I'm getting the impression that the more electronics you know, the cheaper you can do it.
If you're an electrical idiot like me, you end up paying more for other people to assemble
things for you :-)
It's looking to me like my Mill/Drill conversion is going to cost me under $1000. How
much under? I don't know yet. (depends on how much help I can get from a friend of mine
who is an electrical engineer ;-).
If you want to start out real good with one component that's usually expensive; go to Dan
Mauch's site (Camtronics) at http://www.seanet.com/~dmauch/ and buy three of the
heavy duty stepper motors he's got!
They're a fantastic deal!
AND he carries all the other parts for the conroller end of things too.
Hope this helps!... one newbie to another.
