Harry,
I think you are going to be ok with direct drive.
I would still monitor motor current with the heaviest
cutting load you would want to do. If it is under the
max continuous current of the motor and it does not fault out
from following error you are good to go.

Thanks for responding as I posted this question on another board but
didn't get into the sizing to this level. Here's the specs that I
have
KT37.5 Oz-in/A, Max peak current44.5, Max Con. Stall torque300 Oz-in,
Max con. Current 8.9A I have more info if you need it. I feel a 2-1
ratio would be better than the 1-1 I now have but I really don't
want to go into the Z and X-axis if possible the Y would be simple.
I'm running these off of G340 20 amp limit. If these motors are
capable of using the 1-1 that would be a cost and time saver.
