There are no standards. In many cases, these motors were made semi-custom
for an OEM, and the connector was specified by the buyer.

10 wires on a brush motor makes me think they most likely have differential
outputs and an index channel. that would account for 8 wires, plus a shield
would bring it to 9.

Do the encoders have a part number? I have some HP QEDS-7163 encoders
that have a 10-pin ribbon cable. These are NOT differential, however.
They have analog output, as well as digital, and some more wires that are
not connected. They would be compatible with Gecko drives.
