Yes, I don't really recommend doing clerical work while the machine is
in motion, at least until the particular job becomes a production part.

But, I can do calculations with the on-screen calculator, edit a part
program,
use one of a set of programs I have written to do simple tasks like cutting
round or rectangular holes in panels, etc. while the CNC program is
"on", so I don't have to reset the XY coordinate system every time I
restart the CNC program. This saves a lot of time.
