I have about a dozen driver boards, not a clue, just remember that
they have a Z80 processor I can't remember (if ever knew) wha
the output devices are, but it seems that there were 2 outputs \
that were not identical. It seems that one had about 8 devices.
Then I have about another dozen stepper motor with drivers
in a cabinet . The motors are like the MAXNC mini mill uses.
I started getting manuals together and need the power connectors
before I sell them. I had to take them all. I just wanted one or two
to make a 4th axis for a couple of mini mills. They too are out in the
shop.
Do you think the traveling mirror is within the capabilities of a pen
plotter frame. That would really be neat to have the lased and
power supply mounted at one end and a mirror on the pen holder.
I question whether my talents are good enough for that close
tolerance work. My projects are usually measured in feet and inches
and have lots of welding.

My next step is to build a flying lens system, since there are no
forces on the laser beam. It is really overkill to be using my cnc
mill to move the laser and workpiece. Much better to move a mirror
(s) and the lens and have the laser fixed. I may go ahead and build a
smallish gantry for this (maybe 24" by 24") and then later build a
bigger unit. The trick is to make something that can accelerate
really fast, and that means low mass. I haven't decided on the
actuator yet, but I am thinking low-stretch timing belts and brushless
servo motors. I have been getting brushless motors on ebay for dirt
cheap...if only I could find the right type of driver. I want to be
able to use encoder velocity control with EMC and a PCI card by
Abdul.
Most of the driver amps use tach velocity control, or current
control. Well, let me rephrase..I know where to buy the brushless
drivers new, but I want something cheap! :-)
