Relation of a DRO to a CNC modification of a machine?

I have ordered a 3-1 machine with installed DRO. My question is
this...as I fully intend to install a CNC modification to the
machine...
1) Is there any benefit in having the DRO other than for any manual
machining I may also do?
2) Does the DRO offer any feedback to the CNC system?
3) Will I need limit switches to establish an absolute position for
the CNC controller?
I plan on using the Camtronics stepper setup on the machine.
Many thanks in advance.
