  Gary:
I built my ShumaTech DRO-350 for my Shoptask Eldorado, while waiting around
to get into CNC. The day I finished installing it, I got a great deal on
stepper motors, and, well, the rest, as they say, is history.
Now I have a full CNC setup, along with the DRO, on the machine. I find that
it is most useful for "checking" for lost steps or other inaccuracies. It
gives me peace of mind-that is, if I remember to zero the DRO when I change
my zero in Mach2!
You don't NEED limit switches or reference (home) switches, but they are a
good way to make sure of where you are. I have none yet, but I do plan to
install them "as soon as I get around to it".

Subject: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Relation of a DRO to a CNC modification of
a machine?
I have ordered a 3-1 machine with installed DRO. My question is
this...as I fully intend to install a CNC modification to the
machine...
1) Is there any benefit in having the DRO other than for any manual
machining I may also do?
2) Does the DRO offer any feedback to the CNC system?
3) Will I need limit switches to establish an absolute position for
the CNC controller?
I plan on using the Camtronics stepper setup on the machine.
Many thanks in advance.
Gary
