The accuracy and repeatability of a CNC mill depends upon the quality of it's
manufacture, how accurate the ways, lead screws, etc are and of course the
resolution of the encoders and the control. Typically, CNC routers will repeat
or position easily within 0.001" and that is considered somewhat sloppy as it
is possible, under the right conditions, to be at least 10 times more
accurate, within 0.0001" in many cases. Some of the machines we used in the Aerospace
industry and nuclear industry could position and repeat at even greater
accuracy than that. Of course, the building in which they were housed was climate
controlled, and if someone went in or out of the building, all machine was
stopped for some amount of time to allow the climate to return to optimal.

For the most part, hobby type mills will do 0.001" and most commercial mills
will do 0.0005"
