Depends on a miriad of issues. What type of machine, Machine quality, sharpness of tooling, deflection, the amount of material being removed(leaving a few thou for a finish pass), What machining method is employed, just to name a few. The world isn't perfect and neither is any machining operation. The path to close tolerance is machine and then grind to dims. A decent CNC mill should hold a thou. and the cheaper the mill the lower the tolerance. The supersonic imports tout .0005 repeatability(under perfect conditions, you know downhill with a tailwind). No matter what, If tolerance is the issue the grinder hand will eventually see it.

What sort of repeatability and positioning accuracy should one
expect from a CNC mill? Would you call 0.001" typical or
unacceptably sloppy?
