THe steps per inch are contorlled by the leadscrew pitch, reduction
and CPR count of the encoder mounted on the servo motor. Its hard to
change the screw or reduction on an existing machine. Its easy to
change the encoder count. I have 1000 line (4000 CPR) encoders that
combined with everything else gives me 24000 steps per inch. If I
were to change the encoders to 500 line encoders that would be 12000
steps per inch. Mach2 is capable of 50K steps/second. Thats about
400 IPM. A bridgeport would be dangerous at 400 IPM. You can either
change encoders or lower the existing encoder resolution with the
EDIVIDE from USDIGITAL.com.
Roger
PS. Mach2/PMDX-120/Gecko 320 reliably powers my 24K step mill at a
little over 120 IPM and thats fine with me. Its bigger than a
Bridgeport. The G200X will get me up to 180 which was the original
rapid speed. Its not a big issue or I would have done something a
while back..
