Running them at 70 volts DC to stay within the voltage rating of the
drive. Sacrificing speed but not any torque. Still get rapids of 120
ipm on the Bridgeport. These actually exceed the Geckos capability
but work reliably. So, anything equal to or less than these NEMA 42
motors will work with a Gecko 320. When I described these motors to
Marriss at Geckodrive he replied that those are the same size motors
that they test the 320 on. Except at full voltage. He also stated in
another post recently that the 320 actually comes apart at 118 volts
and 30 amps which is just amazing. Thats enough current in AC to
power a small home. 29 in-lb or 2.9 Nm motors are very common and
would be good for any X and Y axis for any mill. Most of the
retrofitters use these for X and Y axis.

Hi Ron,

I wana ask you what is the reduction ratio of the timming belt you
are using to get 120 IPM . The G320 does not have a step multiplaier
and no program can give you more than 45000 ppm , so I think the 120
IPM is imposible with G320 specially on a bridgport ?!

///Actually on X and Y I can get rapids of close to 160 ipm. The belt reduction is important to deliver torque. Which also eats up steps from the PC however, lower encoder resolution is the key to higher rapids. I'm using a 2.5:1 reduction. The encoders are the E5S-200's (200 quadrature, 800 counts per rev.) from USdigital(which are perfect for Gecko 320's). The ballscrews are 5TPI. Every inch linear table travel equals 10k pulses from the PC so, each pulse represents .0001 of table movement <ahem> in theory. 45,000pulses/sec. not min.
