Considder a 3 axis move on the EDM.

The software would have to retain the steps so as to be able to
reverse in the exact same path.

But, since EDM has such close tollerances, the cutter often not
leaving more than 1/10 mm gap, the machine must also be capable of
the accuracy needed to reverse steps.

Many of our home brew are not accurate or stable enough for usch
reversing.

For plunge, it can be simpler, even if the X and Y were both moving
at different speeds, the Z can just retract, the program could memory
of the last 10 steps, then just re-wind 10 steps and re-start.

So, it is not trajectory planning, but reverse that is so hard.
