The path is not reversed ( initially)
the position on the path becomes a previous position
the correct position for edm is according to the gap
it's motion along the path is varied in velocity
sometimes it moves a bit backwards,
a 'cha-cha' motion along the path
the path is only reversed when the gap dictactes a large change
or when changing from gcode element N to N+1 with a small change.
very stabile edm has very few temporary reversals and no large reversals

the way for you to learn how EDM works is to see it
if you're lucky, ask for the motor pulley or couplingto be uncovered
you will see a shaky erratic turning, generaly progressing in the direction
wanted (the shaky bit is only motions of a few microns).
