yes it rrquires small reversals, not necc. entire gcode line reversal
(i was talking abouyt magnitude, saying an entire block neednt be reversed
but like you say a small amount )
the main idea is that the process is slow & bi-directional'
that means the velocity is near zero (usually) and is near fwd as
well as it is near reverse, straddling that edge when optimized.
so when optimal is a jittery jiggly fwd bwd motion
more optimized, less jittery
less optimized more wild
like any motion system

we dont get to state what control we would like
the process determines what works
if we try to move away from the process being in control
(the forced system)
then the process degenerates and the benefit is lost
it's delicate, like carrying a candle in the wind

gressive control often (usually) causes small arcings
small shiny dots on surface, unacceptable to tool makers
because they are hard and the surround is soft, allowing uneven wear of tool

ususally, an imperfect system is 'babied' rather than pushed
EDM is stachostic ( usually does A when we do B, stress the usually)
So, if we aint got the best, make sure all the other bits are as good as
possible, and drive slow in the snow

Lotsa off time, lotsa jump
BTW, jump is just a way to cross the correct position occasionally
just before the tool gets too close, after it was too far
the jump gets a tiny bit of good work done
lotsa jump means not so good gap control

gap control is putting the tool where it does the most good
a very precise position that changes a few microns with every
change in cleanliness which changes with every discharge
it's a loop, a complex loop, a changing loop

With you 80's Sinker, you can do a lot with off & flush
if you open the target ( or gap ) voltage, you end up moving away
from the target, you may see it work smoother, but you're missing the
target with most pulses ( a rifle has a limited distance ). Observe
with a scope ( break off the gnd leg of the power cord 1st or fry the
leads !!)

escape?? I'm in a factory in TaiChung Taiwan, the center of the universe
for inexpensive EDM ( sinker, hole & wire... they dont do grinding)
I'm hacking a new control for EDM ... if I can get soemthings to start
working... inet was clogges up by some hijacker... Z axis thrust bearing
went out... touchscreen only works on WXP and my realtime kernel is
on the W2K box, where touch screen locks cursor into corner of display,
also just got update to gui tools but as usuall, the smartass server
decided to give me stuff in Traditinal Chinese when it saw my address.
another day!! :-)

back to it now
will stay in touch
