For the record I installed and commisioned a sodick wire edm last
year so I am not a novice on these things and indeed the progress is
normally slow but forward going assuming good flushing and correct
settings.

If the reversals are small and seldom it makes it even easier to
develop open source (or at least cheap) software.

As for the larger reversals that are sometimes seen on sinkers
performed periodically they are often to produce extra hydraulic
flushing action. However when I was using a hurco sinker there
seemed to be quite a bit of upward movement due to flushing
problems. I suspect because of greater variation of flushing with z
and also because of change in current density. Not too sure on that
one.

I do think that for wire or 3D sinker type applications it may well
be possible to do without the reversal if the flushing is good
enough. The problem is that the flushing is probably the joint
worst thing on most DIY edms (that and RC generators).
