Ive been to every NAMES show, and have come to know many of the guys
that run the event. I dont think they planned to cut the CNC guys out
last year, I think they just bungled it. Remember this is run by a
committee of volunteers. The normal tables for exhibitors do not get
electricity. Someone forgot to ask for a power drop in the CNC area.
To me the bigger problem was that one half of the exhibit area was an
active ice rink with just a 1" thick board over the ice. My feet froze.
I come with a group of 4 guys and we have all agreeded that this year if
we cant get a table on the non-ice side we wont even bother to unload
our exhibits. I know a couple of the better model vendors that wont be
back this year because of that.
The move to Ohio is interesting- another committee internal battle.
Several of them are not happy about the move. It will be interesting to
see how it all plays out. I think they are all unhappy with the ice rink
problem however and see the need for a move.
We really ought to push to improve the CNC area at Cabin Fever and/or
Iron Fever. They have a MUCH better facility, and I know Gary Schoenly
will bend over backward to help us anyway we need. Iron Fever now gives
almost 1/3 of one of thehalls to the US First Robotic event, having a
big CNC area there would be great.
Ill be at NAMES and I hope to get to Rolands CNC show.

before someone declares this topic off limits remember it was a few of
us at a NAMES show that thought it might work to have a maillist to
carry on the discussion we started there. In some sense NAMES is the
'annual meeting' of this list.
