milling pockets with EMC

Hi,
I'm reading the smid book on CNC programming and noticed that for
milling slots and rectangular pockets, cutter radius compensation is
not used, but it is used for milling circular pockets.
It seems you give up the benefit of changing tool sizes after the code
is generated if you don't use cutter compensation.
