It refers to which side of the line the cutter is on. So, if the X axis
is moving in
the positive direction, and you have it set for G41 offset (cutter left
of part)
then if you were a little guy walking on the table behind the part, you
would
see the cutter following on the LEFT side of the part. The part would be in
the minus Y direction, and the +Y direction would be where the material was
being cut away by the tool. If you haven;t looked at the page I mentioned
a few days ago on this thread, take a look at
http://www.timgoldstein.com/cad_cam/diacomp.htm
and think of following the part outline as the cut progresses. left and
right
should then make sense.
