I lurk alot and learn alot.
This is something I have experience with though.
5/16" cap screws are as someone else pointed out about .004" smaller
than 8mm id bearings. I have shimmed the bearings with some .001 shim
stock to get a tight fit. just cut your stock and while the bearing is
on the bolt slip it in. 1 wrap works easy. 2 gets a little harder to
put in.
On the other hand, sometimes the play can be useful to snug your
bearings up to the way or guide. In my case, it's to adjust any
inaccuracies in my drilling and tapping. ;-)
