For simple 2D profile parts digitizing is to tedious. What you want is a
'teach mode' as in Acurite or in Mach3. Clamp the part to the mill
table, then move around it with an edge finder- using human intelligence
to decide which points are usefull to pickup instead of a total scan of
the entire field.
Using the Mach teach wizzard it should take only a few minutes to walk
around a part, pickup all the significant points and hit the 'teach'
button. You will then have a gdoce file that will follow that profile.
The only hard part of this is deciding which points are important to
pick- for example if there is a curved section moving into a straight
line you have to pick enough points on the curve, then decide where it
starts to be straight so you dont pick as many points.
