I chose to use the LMD18245 based driver module from
www.embeddedtronics.com. Not only is it a microstep driver but I managed to
asemble them for less than $50 Canadian each. All the parts are available
from Digikey.
With the source code available I was even able to modify it slightly for my
needs.
