Hi Paul, Fogassa,

I'll agree with you Paul! I initially put stepper motors on my Sherline 17"
lathe just so I wouldn't have to crank it all that way. JOG was all I wanted.

But after using my CNC controller program on to jog the lathe for a while, I
quickly discovered that it was great to be able to "MDI" the axis around. Much
easier to type "G01 Z -3.4" then hold the jog key down all that time. The next
step was to write short Gcode programs to face off, turn down or do other
operations.

Then, with Vector CAD/CAM available and a tapered column for a steam engine to
make, I learned how to create Gcode programs to turn columns with tapers and
rings. Also connecting a rod with a fish belly, flutes and rings as well.

I have plans to get my "motion code" from my CNC controller program (DOS) down
into a PIC (18F4620). Then, I'll be free to run steppers with a small
standalone microprocessor, or use it as a "black box" and drive it from a Windoz
program.
