Get a cheap older copy of Corel 9 (39.00 on the internet) and do the
whole layout in Corel. The D shapes can be imported in DXF from a
bunch of sources and the holes, rectangles and other openings along
with engraved or silkscreened text are internal to Corel. YOu can
then export in HPGL. I looked at the face plate software and it's:

A) designed for that company's process.
B) Limited in the license agreement to usage for sending files to them.
C) Pretty limited in its drawing tools.

You don't need a new copy of Corel 12 to do vector drawing and use
their 100+ set of fonts. Also if you have to include company logos or
symbols its a lot easier with a good drawing package.
