Looking at the McMaster site it appears you can get gas springs up to
250# capacity pretty cheap (~$20), a pair of those would take a good
deal of load off the servos on the up stroke.

They have gas springs up to 550#, but over 250# capacity the price
takes a big jump up to about $100 ea.

The advantage of the pneumatic cylinder arrangment over the gas
springs is that it's adjustable so you don't have to worry about
ordering the right capacity.

If you perhaps test with a temporary pulley and weight setup you can
probably determine the optimum capacity.
