Nice, the proxxon mill as standard uses a sleeve and some washers to
form thrust bearings, that seems to work well. I was having some
problems with lost steps with my machine one weekend so swapped them
out for normal radial ball bearings, I am told they can take an axial
load of half the radial rating and the radial is massive. They work
really well, all I did was swap the washer setup for the bearings and
hold the bearings in place with a little epoxy, there is one at each
end of the screw. These bearings are also very cheap so if you want
balls you can save a lot over thrust bearings proper.

The problem? Well that actually turned out to be my laptop burping out
the step pulses when running turboCNC, changed laptop and problem
disappeared. Oh well at least the machine got oiled.
