Many a small unit will use two skate bearings on one end of a screw
and by tightening the nuts on the screw, it will preload the bearings
and create a cheap type of thrust bearing with no axial play.


But, they are used on lightly loaded machines. The next step up is
the angular contact bearings. But that is a step up in price as well.

I think I paid about 50 cents or less for skate bearings and $10.00
for a pair of angular contact bearings. VXB.COM
