John, I have seen a similar project on Home Shop Machinist board:
http://www.homeshopmachinist.net
I want to say it was a tubing bender done by David Coffer (sp?).
It's worth your doing a bit of searching over there. I seem to
recall it worked more as a tab stop arrangement with an encoder, but
that could be completely off base. An encoder would certainly help
with the repeatability on different sizes of stock, or at least I
think it would. Not sure ELS is set up to deal with one though.
I've also seen a setup that didn't use a fancy controller at all.
It just had a moveable limit switch. You'd make one by hand, set
the limit switch when you got it right, and then pushing a button
made it repeat over and over again.
Best,
BW
