Both. The home shop types have an expensive hobby and the commercial types
(like me) are too cheap, poor, hardheaded or just plain sensible to fork
over large amounts of money for turnkey machining centers and their $115/hr
repairmen.

Why do people buy elephant guns to hunt whitetail deer, or Ford Excursions
to drive to work, or 800mhz computers to do word processing? How about 24V
cordless drills? It's a Sigmund Freud kind of thing.

OK! I must confess that I use a DOS program to run steppers on my mill, but
they are 80V NEMA 42's - big, strong, masculine NEMA 42's. And the computer
is a Pentium 450mhz with 64 meg (63.7 meg unused).

I guess I had better shut up.
